Tottenham Hotspur are title favourites for many at the moment. Yes, it’s unbelievable, but their squad could be about to get picked apart this summer.
Mauricio Pochettino must be considering moving on to a club with a higher pedigree and the players wouldn’t be blamed for thinking along the same lines. The likely arrivals of new managers at Chelsea and Manchester United, paired with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, could see Spurs’ domestic rivals pick the flesh off their brilliant young squad.
The spine of this team has been applauded across Europe and the Lilywhites could be on course for their first Champions League appearance since Harry Redknapp’s free-flowing side.
There is much to love about this Tottenham team, a rigid defence is complemented beautifully by the attacking energy of Kane, Eriksen, Lamela and Alli, yet there is an underlying fear that the North London club could be about to have their star players ripped away from them once again.
Toby Alderweireld
After impressing at Southampton last season, Alderweireld has been even better during the 2015/16 campaign.
The centre-back has, by most people’s judgement, been the best defender in the league this season and built a rock solid partnership with Jan Vertonghen.
Vertonghen’s injury has not hampered Alderweireld’s form, mind, as the ex-Atletico Madrid man has continued to impress alongside Kevin Wimmer.
With Barcelona, Manchester United and Arsenal likely to be in the market for a centre-back, Alderweireld will be a sought after man this summer.
Harry Kane
Kane quickly proved the ‘one season wonder’ crew wrong this year and has been as integral as he was during the last campaign.
The burden of being the only natural centre forward in the Spurs squad has not damaged his performances and Kane looks set to lead the line for England at the Euros this summer.
After a screamer in the North London derby, a good Euros could see some of Europe’s big boys come in for the grounded striker.
Real Madrid are bound to be sniffing around, whilst Chelsea and Manchester City will be ready to go to financial war once more.
Dele Alli
Few players have captured the imagination of the English football fan like Alli has.
The former MK Dons midfielder has a contender for goal of the season, is the favourite for young player of the year and might be about to win the Premier League title in his first season in the top flight.
All of this has seen links between Alli and Real Madrid, naturally.
Spurs would ask for a breath taking fee if they are to sell Alli, as Levy always does, but it is not impossible.
Hugo Lloris
We can assume that the David de Gea nonsense will be dragged up again this summer and Hugo Lloris could be used as a pawn by either Manchester United or Real Madrid.
Madrid may look to Lloris as a De Gea alternative, whilst PSG are constantly looming around any French player who can put together a run of form.
Mousa Dembele
Dembele has found his best Fulham form under Pochettino and the Belgian midfield lynchpin has shunned any prospect of Nabil Bentaleb or Ryan Mason getting regular football again this season.
The Belgian’s remarkable ball retention has been the basis for Tottenham’s attacking flair and he will be a hugely demanded player around Europe this summer.
