Everton right-back Seamus Coleman is expected to be on the sidelines until 2018, reports The Mirror.
It is no surprise that the 28-year-old is set for a lengthy spell on the treatment table after he suffered a horrific broken leg while playing for the Republic of Ireland on Friday.
In a World Cup qualifier against Wales, which ended goalless at the Aviva Stadium, Coleman was stretchered off with an oxygen mask strapped to his face after Neil Taylor’s tackle caused significant damage.
The Mirror claims that the Irishman will miss the rest of the season, plus half of the 2017-18 campaign as he recovers from the fracture.
It also means that Martin O’Neill will be without the right-back for the rest of Ireland’s qualification campaign for the 2018 World Cup.
The newspaper adds that FIFA are expected to cover Coleman’s £50,000-a-week wages under the Club Protection Programme.
The Republic of Ireland issued a statement at the weekend confirming that the Everton man had undergone successful surgery.
