What they ask
First of all, the board are adamant that they want you to play attacking football and develop players using the club’s youth system. Something that is supposedly the ‘United Way’, will you do a better job of that than Jose Mourinho?
The board want you to win both the Europa League and Premier League in your first season. A steep ask, yes, but you have the squad to compete. Other than that they aren’t too fussed, although an FA Cup final appearance will help you out.
What they give
A flashy summer 2016 does not restrict your spending power too much. The wage budget gives enough for one big name signing, while the transfer budget is strong enough to compete.
There are plenty of sales to be made at the club, too, so that is only a nominal figure.
Three to Buy
Inaki Williams
A release clause means there is little room for negotiation with Williams and Manchester United’s attacking depth may make him seem an unnecessary signing.
However, his pace, power and ability to finish chances make him worth the hefty fee and could be ideal to play on the right flank with Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan playing centrally.
Danilo Pereira
No faith in Schneiderlin? Need to replace Carrick?
Danilo Pereira could be your man. While more glamorous targets are tempting, a lack of Champions League football would make them hard to attract and Porto’s midfielder has the rounded attributes to play a number of roles.
Moise Kean
As it’ll take several seasons for Kean to be at first team standard, it is not a necessity that he is bought in the first summer.
He does, however, develop into one of the world’s best strikers and could be the long-term striking competitor for Marcus Rashford.
Three to Sell
Wayne Rooney
Football Manager have reflected Wayne Rooney’s real-life decline and, despite his versatility and mental attributes, is a player worth moving on ASAP.
His high wages make him a burden on the club’s finances and a far superior player could be added.
Marouane Fellaini
I’d imagine few will disagree with this one.
Able to play in a number of midfield roles, yes, Fellaini is a jack of all trades. He is, though, not good enough to be a squad member if you are intending on lifting the Premier League trophy.
Phil Jones
Although he still has some of the potential that saw him signed by Manchester United, Jones’ poor injury record makes him a liability on Football Manager.
He can become a useful squad player, but it would be far better to get a more reliable alternative.
Three to Nurture
Axel Tuanzebe
Manchester United’s defensive problems shan’t be lasting must longer with Tuanzebe around.
Within a few months Tuanzebe can reasonably be a first team backup and has the potential to be a solid Champions League standard defender.
Tahith Chong
Versatility is clearly Chong’s standout strength at the start of your save. Able to play anywhere behind the striker, he will become a handy bench player at the very least.
His crossing, too, makes him a handy option once he improves sufficiently.
Angel Gomes
Only 15 years old at the start, Gomes has a long way to go and is a player who will require your patience and commitment to the long haul.
