Southampton Football Club’s official Twitter account posted a message on Thursday about togetherness ahead of their huge relegation six-pointer against Stoke City at St Mary’s on Saturday, and Saints fans were quick to react.
The message on the tweet read: “We need togetherness from every single fan and player. We have to put everything on the pitch, finish empty in our energy and give 100 per cent.”
The south coast outfit moved out of the relegation zone as they salvaged a late 1-1 draw against Burnley at Turf Moor last weekend, but they are only out of the bottom three on goal difference ahead of their clash against the 19th-placed Potters, who are only one point adrift of them, this weekend.
Mauricio Pellegrino and his players certainly need to do their bit on the pitch for the visit of Paul Lambert’s men, as they are without a win in the Premier League on their own patch since November, while they have failed to beat fellow strugglers Swansea City, Huddersfield Town, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United at St Mary’s already this term.
Southampton supporters took to social media to respond to the message from the club, and they weren’t best pleased.
While one said “all words and no actions”, another said “sadly we’ve become a manager/team who love words more than actions”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
