Manchester United have moved this weekend to try and tie down one of their key players, as Jesse Lingard looks set to sign a new deal with the club.
Reported by the Sun, Lingard is set to sign a new deal which will see his wages increase to a whopping £130k a week at Old Trafford.
And the decison by United is no surprise to us here in the Tavern, who have been impressed with Lingard’s performances under Solskjaer.
The England man has risen to become one of the finest attacking midfield players in a Man United squad which has become all too used to being let down by some it’s big earners, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez just one player who immediately springs to mind on that front.
Lingard has also found his goalscoring touch at Old Trafford in recent seasons, with the England man notching 15 times during the 2017/18 campaign before adding another seven last season under Solskjaer.
There is more to Lingard than just his goals however, with the United manager no doubt being suitably impressed by his off-field demeanour and seemingly natural ability to life the spirits among the dressing room.
Add to this that Lingard can fill in across various positions across the midfield, and United’s decision to award the midfielder a new deal makes all kind of sense for the Red Devils.
